Fishing in the Poconos

There are thousands of miles of public streams and lakeshores to fish in the Poconos. State land is free to fish on, but a fishing license is required for anyone over the age of 16. Out of state persons over 16 much purchase an out of state license.

Please practice catch-and-release. When a fish is reeled in try to keep it in the water and not touch it(unless, of course, you're taking a picture for this website...then we can make an exception.). A fish's "slime coating" is actually its defensive shield against disease. Minimal contact with a fish will increase its survival chances dramatically. A simple pair of pliers to remove the hook can save many a fish's life.

In recent years, we have seen an increase in stream and lake-side pollution throughout the Poconos. PLEASE LEAVE ONLY FOOTPRINTS. We cannot stress this enough. The Earth is not a trash can.
